Ironically, it took until I was a thousand kilometers away from India for me to watch my first full-length cricket match.

And I have to say, I enjoyed it. Maybe because it was India vs Pakistan, or more likely because of the experience of being able to sit down with  a bunch of other indians, some of whom I knew very well, and not having to speak slowly, or put on a terrible american accent, of being able to lapse in and out of Hindi, without alienating someone in the conversation. Of being able to celebrate with a handful of people, while as far as the rest of the campus was concerned, it was just another day.

It’s strange, but the more I move away from India, applying for an SSN, jobs and planning summer’s to ensure I won’t be home for more than a few weeks at a time – the more I want to cling to the little things, the quirks and idiosyncrasies that make me Indian.

In other news, it’s been a hectic semester, and while my course load wasn’t particularly challenging, it’s been irritating, with a dozen, tiny things to do every day of the week. Looking at the classes Im taking next semester, doesn’t look like things are going to change any time soon. On the upside, it’s the final stretch of this semester, with a little more than a month of classes left before finals, and the subsequent three week trip home before summer sessions begin.

also kudos to the person who pointed this out to me, you’re awesome.
